Disciple of l'École de Paris
1952 - 1965

Of French origin, René was un enfant de la liberté. He disdained any form of intellectual tyranny. Thus when the McCarthy witch hunt for free thinkers began in the U.S.A. in the Fifties, René felt he had no choice.
Like Chaplin, Dassin and thousands of like-minded American writers, movie directors and artists, he decided to leave the country. Evelyn and René chose France, the Land of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.

Though René continued to be very much in demand by fashion retailing leaders such as Mr. Marcus of Neiman Marcus, René never accepted commercial work thereafter. Rarely did he return to America.
In Paris, René joined in at La Grande Chaumière, a studio shared by a group of artists of the Paris School. There he filled pad after pad with nude drawings, each as perfect as the other.
